Crosskart sprint competition opens Elva City Special Stage in Rally Estonia
The last stage of Shell Helix Rally Estonia is Elva City stage held on Sunday 14.47. But before the top WRC cars and other competitors start the stage sprint competition for crosskarts will be held on the same stage starting 13.00
Crosskarts have enjoyed increase of popularity in Estonia lately. Those attractive small and fast vehicles are used in Estonian championship and few weeks ago Ott Tänak, Esapekka Lappi and many Estonian drivers competed with them in rallyday held in Tallinn. In the final Ott Tänak beated his teammate Esapekka Lappi.
Crosskart or Speedcar Extreme is rear-wheel drive vehicle with the 150 bhp engine from motorbike. As it weights bit over 300 kilograms it has unreal acceleration and great handling. From 0-100 km/h takes less then 300 seconds an it’s top speed is 180 km/h.
Shell Helix Rally Estonia entry list tops with three crews from WRC series: Ott Tänak-Martin Järveoja (Toyota Yaris WRC), Hayden Paddon-Seb Marshall (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC) and Craig Breen-Scott Martin (Citroen C3 WRC). Total 103 teams are in the entry list of Rally Estonia, besides WRC cars 9 R5 cars, Proto Cars, 11 R2 cars and more.
The official opening and award ceremony will take place in Tartu, the second biggest city in Estonia. Tartu is an entertainment center of Shell Helix Rally Estonia and the main artist of the official concert is Russian superstar Nyusha.
Otepää which is known as a winter resort offers great opportunities for the technical center of the rally. Service park and HQ are located in Otepää at Tehvandi Sport Centre. Besides Tartu, Elva hosts another Super Special and the gravel stages in South-Estonia are considered as the best in the country.
