With the eyes of the motorsport world focused on Russia today for the country’s inaugural FIA Formula One World Championship grand prix, the FIA European Rally Championship is saluting Alexey Lukyanuk.
One of the stars of the ERC-counting auto24 Rally Estonia back in the summer, Lukyanuk became Russian champion recently after taking victory on Rally Kuban, his fourth success in his national contest in 2014.
Co-driven as always by Alexey Arnautov, Lukyanuk took victory by more than 50 seconds in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX to put the title beyond reach.
As well as finishing second overall on auto24 Rally Estonia, Lukyanuk was awarded the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy for his hugely impressive performance. The 33-year-old also earned the prestigious accolade on Rally Liepāja last season.
